This is the start of what could be a recurring feature on the show, and here’s how it works.
You’re only looking at the six live-action Star Wars movies. Clone Wars and Rebels cartoons don’t count, and neither do the books or comics, old or new. Everything revolves around the movies, so let’s keep it there.
Also, the thing you want to change can’t be to remove the Special Edition changes. If you want to proceed as though you’re changing something from the original, non-Special-Edition movies, I’m fine with that. But let’s keep it meaty, shall we?
To start us off, here’s the one thing I would change. I’d have Anakin be 14-15 years old in The Phantom Menace instead of nine. Slightly older than Padme. And here’s why I think this would make a lot more sense:
1. When Mace Windu says Anakin is too old to be trained and that there’s too much anger in him, you could totally see that in a teenager. I mean, does it look like there’s any anger in 9-year-old Anakin?!
2. You could already be building romantic tension between Anakin and Padme during Phantom Menace, to lay the groundwork for Attack of the Clones.
3. At the beginning of Attack of the Clones, when Anakin confesses to Obi-Wan that he’s been obsessing about Padme for years, it’s way more believable. That would make it all the way through puberty and his ascetic Jedi training that his brain has been spinning over her.
4. The romantic tension between them in AOTC would feel more authentic, makes Anakin not seem like a crazed puppy dog, and makes Padme not seem like she’s robbing the cradle when she finally does come across.
5. And when you base Anakin’s side of the relationship in that desperate desire, his downfall as a result would seem even more powerful and realistic.
So that’s my take. What’s yours? Does that theory make sense to you? And what’s the one thing YOU would change about any of the Star Wars movies? Let’s hear it in the comments!

Nailed it!

Change:
I would have liked to see LANDO have a much larger role, possibly the second half of EMPIRE told from his perspective.

Now THAT would’ve been a rockin’ good time! And Wedge could have led the attack on the Death Star so Lando could have gone down to Endor. I would have loved to see a Han and Lando team up for a mission. Thanks for chiming in, Caine!

Change:
Luke would use his lightsaber more (such as in the trash compactor) in ANH

Yeah! Why wouldn’t he give that a shot in the first place? He probably left it on the Falcon after he went out with Han and Ben and the droids. You’d think he’d start whacking stuff with it every chance he got! Thanks for your answer.

I would change the Ewoks. No, I would not remove them from the film, because I like what they represent (the simplistic natives taking down the technologically advanced imperials), but I would like to see them redesigned to be less teddy bear-ish. I would make them less cute, less chubby, more like rabid chipmunks maybe? Remember, the Ewoks captured and almost ate our hero’s! — I know the filmmakers at the time where limited by their technology, and had to go with little people in furry suits, but, in my personal special edition, I would redesign the Ewoks.

Hi Tim! Thanks for chiming in on this. I featured your answer in Episode #229 on Wednesday, 2/18/15, and posted a couple of pre-production drawings that, indeed, look a little more rabid. 🙂
