Here’s what one of our Patrons, Tim McMahon of the Expanded Fandomverse Podcast, had to say when we posed the question, what’s the one thing you’d change about the Star Wars movies?
I would change the Ewoks. No, I would not remove them from the film, because I like what they represent (the simplistic natives taking down the technologically advanced imperials), but I would like to see them redesigned to be less teddy bear-ish. I would make them less cute, less chubby, more like rabid chipmunks maybe? Remember, the Ewoks captured and almost ate our heroes! — I know the filmmakers at the time were limited by their technology, and had to go with little people in furry suits, but, in my personal special edition, I would redesign the Ewoks.
Now it’s your turn again. What’s the one thing you would change? Remember, we’re only talking about the six live-action movies, and you don’t have to use your one thing on reversing any Special Edition change. Have your say in the comments!
Star Wars Fun Fact
Surprising or little known Star Wars tidbits, sometimes related to today’s Force Feature. From Wookieepedia, the secret history of the Ewoks:
George Lucas intended that a primitive race should overthrow the Empire in what was intended at that time to be the final episode, and had originally planned to use Wookiees, but decided against it after it had been established that Chewbacca was proficient with technology. His answer was to create a new race called Ewoks, which is “Wookiee” with the syllables reversed (and altered to resemble the name of a Native American people). A little-known fact is that the Ewoks are never referred to by name in Return of the Jedi’s dialogue.
And here are a couple of pre-production sketches of what they could have looked like!
