In this, my final installment of looks at Beth Revis’ novel Rebel Rising – which is the story of the 13-year gap in Jyn Erso’s life from the time she’s rescued off Lah’mu by Saw Gerrera to the time she’s rescued from the Wobani labor camp by the Rebellion – I’m looking at the circumstances which got Jyn thrown into prison. Specifically, that exact Imperial labor camp, in a deal that, like Vader’s classic stunt in The Empire Strikes Back, gets worse all the time.
We also find out that Jyn Erso “settled in” for a year on Takodana, prior to the situation that got her arrested. This seems like too big a planet drop to ignore. Yes, Takodana’s a big planet, but the kinds of things Jyn can do, and that she chose to do in order to make a living, are the kinds of things that would place her squarely in Maz Kanata’s castle at some point. I’m very curious to see when the other shoe drops on that one…
