From past experience, we know that the folks at Lucasfilm like to try to bury Easter eggs in plain sight. Witness Lucasfilm Story Group executive Pablo Hidalgo at SWCO flagging the fact that the planet Crait, revealed in the teaser for The Last Jedi, was actually named and referenced months earlier in Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, and you get a sense of the kind of hijinx they’re up to.
Well, Matt Martin from the Lucasfilm Story Group tweeted about how he snuck in a reference to a character from Star Wars comics in the description for the A-wing model on display at the D23 Expo. And I got to thinking about what else he might have snuck in there.
One thing is pretty certain: The First Order Lieutentant’s uniform on display looks just like the one Finn was wearing in the behind the scenes reel for The Last Jedi. Considering that the uniform debuted on Friday and the BTS reel came out on Saturday, I’d say that was premeditated.
Now, check out this description of the model of the First Order Fleet Transport:
Within the First Order fleet, troops, officers, and personnel traverse the interiors of massive ships using small transport vehicles. Piloted by astromech droids, these vehicles are programmed with ship schematics and security access codes.
So, we know that Finn and Rose go undercover in The Last Jedi from the BTS reel. We also know, from the Vanity Fair feature back in May, that Finn and Rose are going “behind enemy lines.” The conclusion to which I’m jumping is that we’ll seen Finn and Rose try to take control of one of these transports, and use the astromech’s security access codes to get into somewhere related to the objective of their mission.
