Operation Cinder was Emperor Palpatine’s last hurrah. A final spit in the face to the Rebellion, and a surprise see-ya-later to the Empire, Operation Cinder was part of the “Contingency,” which was designed to wreak maximum chaos on planets throughout the galaxy in the event of Palpatine’s untimely death. The goal? Basically, to wipe the Empire from the face of the galaxy, for not being good enough to fulfill the Emperor’s dreams of conquest.
First revealed in the Shattered Empire comics and further elaborated upon in the Aftermath novels, Inferno Squad is about to get dragged into it as part of the events of Star Wars Battlefront II, coming later this year.
In the first story cut scene to be revealed from the game, Admiral Garrick Versio and his daughter, Commander Iden Versio, meet up with a Sentinel. These are droids programmed to carry important messages – and as we’ve seen so far in the new canon, usually from Palpatine himself, and usually appearing after Palpatine’s death.
I’m talking about this in today’s podcast, and also Domhnall Gleeson’s recent interview with Collider. The maniacal General Hux from The Force Awakens dishes about his reaction to The Last Jedi script, and artfully dodges a question about Episode IX.
