Remember how I talked about the story “I, Droid” in Ken Liu’s The Legends of Luke Skywalker? That’s the one which largely takes place in the Unknown Regions, featuring an inhospitable planet only referred to as The Deep, and a space station orbiting it known as The Gem.
Well, if the story is to be believed at a basic, then at some point between, say, the Battle of Jakku and the novel Bloodline (between 5 ABY and 28 ABY), Luke Skywalker came to rescue R2-D2 from The Deep and wound up leading a droid rebellion and turning the lords, ladies, and assorted “nobles” of The Gem to the “authorities, though it’s not made clear in the story who those authorities might be.
Meanwhile, we know from Andy Serkis (via Entertainment Weekly) that Supreme Leader Snoke has a taste for luxury and the finer things in life. So on today’s podcast, I’m exploring the possibility that Snoke was the man behind the curtain at The Gem, and whether Luke’s interference at The Gem could be the source of Snoke’s specific beef against Luke and the New Republic (and the Resistance by extension)…
