Well, the fifth weekend is in the books for The Rise of Skywalker, and the results are showing the beginning of the end of the box office run. That’s not pessimism talking, necessarily – that’s a reflection of a couple of facts that are showing up in the numbers.
For a start, TROS lost about 1200 screens this past weekend, meaning fewer opportunities to be making money at the box office. That said, the reason why it loses screens is because it’s not making enough money to keep it on all of those screens. It’s all about efficiency, you know, and movie houses want to make as much off of their screens as possible.
So TROS went down to about 3000 screens this weekend, and also dropped from second to fifth place at the box office. $21.5 million over the weekend is nothing to sneeze at, and not only has it crossed the $1 billion mark overall, it’s also cracked the top 15 of domestic box office earners. As far as beating Rogue One or The Last Jedi, we’ll talk about that and more on today’s show… Punch it!
