Me, I’m wondering if Maz Kanata and her castle are there to play a Hero’s Journey part in The Force Awakens. Specifically, will her castle be like the cantina in Star Wars – the entrance to the secret world, perhaps for Rey to cross through? That’s what I’m hoping for. I think they were trying to evoke that feeling when they went into Jabba the Hutt’s palace in ROTJ, but it wasn’t quite the same.
