Kylo Ren is not who we think he is…or at least, that’s the gist of the big reveal in the Fall Movie Preview issue of Entertainment Weekly. And yes, I know what you’re thinking, but the winter solstice this year is on December 22, so yes, The Force Awakens is technically a fall movie.
All that said, if you are REALLY trying to keep spoiler-free – as in, absolutely nothing, not even officially authorized reveals, then turn back now. Because we’ve got a confirmation from one, and a bit of new information that I don’t think has been sneaked or otherwise reported anywhere.
First off, yes, that’s Jakku where you see Kylo Ren with First Order Flametroopers torching a village. Which now puts him on the same planet as Rey and Finn (and, by inference with BB-8’s presence on Jakku and with Finn having the use of Poe Dameron’s jacket, maybe Poe is on Jakku, too.
Second, “Kylo Ren” is not his real name! (Cue the Ting Tings. “That’s not my name. That’s not my name.” etc., ad infinitum). Nope, it turns out that there’s a currently mysterious “Knights of Ren” organization which gave him the name. So now we really don’t know who he is. And all the speculation about his potential parentage just ramped up all over again.
Here are the links to the 2-page article on EW.com, with more info about the character, too!

Hi Tom,
Thanks so much for the comment and questions! In order…
1. Yes, we’ll be rotating trivia back in starting with the Sunday 8/16 podcast. Hang in there!
2. The thought had occurred, but we haven’t really pursued it yet. Do I take it I can put you down as a vote for seeing it happen sooner rather than later?
3. That, I’m just humbled by. Thank you so much for saying so. That’s the kind of thing that keeps ME going, too. 🙂
