So, this is the poster I was kindly gifted by my friend Bob McCourt (not this exact one – this is from a sales listing on eBay, but it’s the same poster). Thank you, Bob!
And it got me thinking about all the posters I’d had as a kid (and still have!), which I got through the order form in every issue of Bantha Tracks, the newsletter of the old Star Wars Fan Club. And I could have sworn I ordered the Revenge of the Jedi teaser poster, but it seems I misremembered. I do have an official sticker for it, though.
But I got to thinking about how, for the longest time afterward, Lucas flatly denied that Return of the Jedi had ever been named Revenge of the Jedi, however temporarily. Now, of course, that we have more detailed back stories of the creation of the movies, the truth has come out. Why hide it in the first place?
Not sure, but even so, it raises the question about what kind of misinformation we’re being fed about The Force Awakens. Specifically, the information being released by rumor and spoiler sites. I mean, is it possible that they’ve been played by J.J. Abrams and company all along?
