After a couple of days talking about Lost Stars, we’re into what’s possibly the most exciting section of all – the events that happen after Return of the Jedi. It only covers the first of thirty years before the events of The Force Awakens take place. And yet, we learn quite a bit, including:
1. Imperial sympathizers have attempted to get control of Naboo three times, all unsuccessfully.
2. Grand Moff Randd was the one who failed in the Battle of Jakku, and had to retreat with what fleet he had left, ultimately hanging out in the Queluhan Nebula, in the Unknown Regions of space, to avoid New Republic detection.
3. General Rieekan devised the plan to try to capture a Star Destroyer at the Battle of Jakku (so he’s still alive and kicking).
4. The New Republic’s major moves in the first year include pollution cleanup and slavery reparations. A Wookiee in the novel has already received hers, which suggests that Han and Chewie’s efforts sometime in the second six months after the Battle of Endor in freeing the Wookiees of Kashyyyk were successful.
5. Mon Mothma, Princess Leia, and a new person – Sondiv Sella – are in charge now, and stability is not quite in hand. It’s never said, but Sondiv Sella could be the mother of Korr Sella, who was killed by the First Order when they starkiller weapon hit Hosnian Prime.
6. Various Imperials are declaring their intentions to become the new Emperor, which is causing a civil war with in the fleet.
Those are the highlights, and we get deeper into it on the podcast. Have a listen!
