So, The Force Awakens novelization has some pretty interesting reveals about Rey. Not the full identity level of reveal, but certainly some things that will make you go “Hmmm…”
For example – Kylo Ren knows who Rey is, but Han Solo does not. That comes from dialogue from Kylo Ren during their lightsaber battle finale, where he says, “It is you.” Whether he knows her in person or by reputation, however, remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, the narrative includes Han thinking to himself, “Who is this girl?” This would suggest that at best he doesn’t know her, and at craziest she’s somehow his daughter and Leia (and/or Luke) kept her hidden from Han. Wha-wha-whaaaat?
We learn from Rey herself that she’s been flying things “almost since she could walk.” Which makes it sound like she was trained by someone before she was handed off to Unkar Plutt. And speaking of Unkar, we get an additional bit of dialogue from the movie that was cut somewhere. In Rey’s vision, she hears a voice (“that voice”) that says, “Stay here. I’ll come back for you.” And later, “I’ll come back, sweetheart. I promise.” No idea whether it’s male or female. Certainly reads like father or mother, doesn’t it?
There’s more, and it’s all discussed in today’s episode. Have a listen, share your thoughts in the comments, and subscribe to the podcast on iTunes or your favorite podcast app!
