Episode 850: 7 Scariest Characters/Creatures From the Star Wars Movies

Happy Halloween! In honor of the holiday, I’m sharing my list of the scariest characters/creatures from the Star Wars movies. Of course, all lists like this are subjective, and in the eye of the beholder as far as what you or I might find scary. That said, I’d love to hear your votes for the scariest characters and creatures in the comments.

Since this is primarily an audio podcast, I decided to limit it to characters or creatures you’d have no problem picturing. And I’ve decided to go with one character/creature each from each of the seven movies. Here we go…

Phantom Menace: The sando aqua monster. That’s that Godzilla-like creature striding underwater on Naboo near the planet core – the one about which Qui-Gon Jinn says, “There’s always a bigger fish.” Rips an opee sea killer in half. And how does it manage to walk on the bottom of the ocean, anyway?

Attack of the Clones: The acklay. That’s the spider/crab-like creature in the Geonosian arena which is ultimately dispatched by Obi-Wan Kenobi, and I have to say I had no sympathy for that thing. They’re amphibian, by the way. Kill you anywhere. Ugh.

Revenge of the Sith: Anakin Skywalker. Easily manipulated, impossible to reason with, immensely powerful, willing to murder a bunch of children at the drop of a hat.

A New Hope: The dianoga. How a thing that massive could hide in the water of the garbage compactor, and be strong enough to pull down a fully grown human without being seen, and without creating so much as a ripple on the surface – now, that’s scary.

Empire Strikes Back: The ugnaughts. Maybe not separately, but as a group, I was a kid and afraid and convinced that despite how big Chewie was, the ugnaughts could melt down Threepio and there wouldn’t be a thing Chewie could do about it. They were successfully playing keep away with him so easily, and he’s trying to be good and not punch them into jelly, and they were utterly taking advantage of that. Hate those ugnaughts!

Return of the Jedi: Jabba the Hutt, of course. Slimy, disgusting, rotten, evil, worm-ridden filth. Out of this whole list, probably the worst one of all of them in my book.

Force Awakens: Kylo Ren, for reasons similar to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. Easily manipulated, impossible to reason with, immensely powerful, invades people’s minds, freezes laser bolts in mid-air, destroys things in adult temper tantrums, and toys with his father’s emotions before killing him in cold blood.
