47 days and counting! Star Wars Celebration Orlando is just around the corner, and since our last update three weeks ago, a lot of big news has been announced, including:
Thursday’s marquee event: The 40th Anniversary Panel. The description claims this panel will “will feature Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and discussions with some of the saga’s brightest stars. It promises to highlight the impact of the galaxy far, far away and the fandom that has propelled it for the last four decades; this marquee Celebration event will undoubtedly include many not-to-be-missed surprises.” Funnily enough, I just read something about how the Star Trek franchise let the 50th anniversary go by last year and didn’t make much of a fuss about it (which gibes with my experience, too).
Friday’s marquee event: The Last Jedi Panel. Kathleen Kennedy and Rian Johnson are confirmed to appear, along with “plenty of surprises and special guests on the panel to keep the excitement brewing and speculation spinning throughout the rest of the weekend.” For the last two years, that’s pretty much included the majority of primary cast members of The Force Awakens and Rogue One. So, probably: Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and likely more. Based on the last four-day Celebration event, I had thought this would happen on Thursday, as it did for The Force Awakens. Instead, we’re going to have to wait one day more for that first The Last Jedi trailer.
By process of elimination, that suggests Star Wars Rebels Season 4 will be the big Saturday event, and Future Filmmakers will be the big Sunday event.
That and more discussed in today’s podcast!
