Well, well, well. The D23 Expo has come and gone, and with it, we have a lot of news-like stuff about The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and Episode IX!
First up: The long-rumored Drew Struzan contribution to the Star Wars saga of posters has released! Here’s the official teaser poster for The Force Awakens:
Please note that Finn is brandishing the lightsaber. Which on the one hand is not a surprise, since a lightsaber was pictured in his jacket in the concept art shown at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim. But on the other hand, well, the fact that we haven’t been told his last name has long suggested there’s a surprise to his lineage. And we’re all wondering who the Skywalker descendants will be. This image just continues to keep us off-balance. Is he somehow related? Whether he is or isn’t, is he a Force user in the first place? (Or capable of it?)
Okay, onto Episode VIII. Benicio del Toro is telling anyone who will listen that he’s close to signing a deal to be a villain in Rian Johnson’s installment. Believe it when we hear it confirmed, of course, but all this public talk doesn’t seem to be hurting his chances at this point…
Meanwhile, rumors proved true! Colin Trevorrow has been tapped to handle Episode IX, thus creating another link between the Original Trilogy and the Sequel Trilogy by having three directors for three movies.
Okay, onto Rogue One. It’s no longer called Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, it’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, the collective is and still will be the Star Wars Anthology Series. Confused yet? Probably not, I figure. Here’s the new logo:
And there’s been a full press release about the movie starting principal photography, as well as quite a different cast photo from the one we saw for The Force Awakens:
I swear, at a small thumbnail size, I had a full moment where I thought Felicity Jones was actually Frodo Baggins. Probably shouldn’t admit that. But when I blew up the pic, I could tell right away it was her. 🙂 Neat photo, too. Jedi News UK has a “closer look” at the cast that’s well worth checking out.
Speaking of photos, here’s a link to a comprehensive collection of images of the leaked action figures, LEGO sets, and Funkos if you want to dive in, from Star Wars 7 News. (Including the new character, and the explanation of who those characters were that were running down a corridor in the San Diego Comic Con behind-the-scenes video.)
And finally, for the spoiler desirous:
A possible place where some of the Rogue One action is taking place (Making Star Wars)
The Knights of Ren, and possible links with older rumors (Indie Revolver)
