First off, at Vanity Fair’s “New Establishment Summit,” a bunch of people got the chance to ask J.J. Abrams anything – not that he would answer the questions. 🙂 That being said, Vanity Fair got cute and had George Lucas ask a question, which was:
J.J., what happened to Darth Vader’s grandchildren?
To which Abrams replies:
You tell me, man. You made all this @#$% up.
Here’s the full video for your amusement:
But Entertainment Weekly doesn’t seem to understand the joke. In their reporting on this, they said:
Not even George Lucas seems to know what J.J. Abrams has planned for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Really, EW? Remember when Lucas said they’re not making “his” movies? Well, he had to know enough about Abrams’ movie to make that statement. So I think it’s darned well for certain Lucas knows.
Meanwhile, there’s a great wrap-up in The Guardian about William Shatner trolling Force Awakens fans. And here’s the only response to Shatner that needs to be said: Star Trek V, which Shatner directed and for which he helped write the story. The one with the worst rating on Rotten Tomatoes of all 12 Star Trek movies.
And finally, a nice piece in the New York Times by one of their movie reviewers about how Star Wars doesn’t belong to George Lucas, it belongs to the fans. Funny, that’s exactly what I said in July of last year on Episode #1 of the podcast!
