The Force Feature, exploring the many worlds of Star Wars, in the imagination and in real life!So we’re at 463 days and counting before the release of Episode VII, and I had a moment where I thought that I could look forward to a teaser trailer coming out sometime in the next couple of months, maybe in November or December, which would be fantastic.
Do you remember when the teaser trailer first started showing up in theaters for The Phantom Menace? How people were buying tickets for the movie just to see the trailer, and then walking out without even staying for the movie? I’m willing to bet the same thing happens again when the Episode VII trailer comes out. Sure, you’ll be able to watch it on your computer or phone, and you will, bunches of times, but nothing beats the full tilt movie theater experience.
Of course, here it is the beginning of September, and the first trailer for the final Hobbit movie just came out, a mere four months before its release. So maybe an Episode VII trailer in time for Christmas, or Hanukah, or whatever you celebrate in December, is just wishful thinking. I have a funny feeling, though, based on nothing, that we’ll get a teaser trailer and the official name before the year is out.
Meanwhile, let’s move on to the news, and whether you’re just joining us for these updates or you need the reminder, there will be no outright spoilers in the podcast or in the blog post that accompanies it at SW7x7.com, but there will be links in case you’re the kind of person who can’t stand for any secrets to be kept from you.
First up, casting news. Miltos Yerolemou, who played the “water dancer” Syrio Forel in HBO’s Game of Thrones series, has supposedly joined the cast of Episode VII, according to the BBC. However, Lucasfilm has neither confirmed nor denied the report. Not that you’d expect them to confirm anything until they were darn good and ready to!
Being that he played a swordsman on Game of Thrones, everyone’s jumped to the typecasting conclusion that he’ll be wielding a lightsaber in the movie. Really, now, he could just as easily be one of those acrobatic performers from the opera troupe we saw in Revenge of the Sith. Or, on second thought…nah. Gotta be a lightsaber.
Second: Just because GQ dressed Adam Driver in a vest and a white-ish shirt for their recent cover story, and gave him poofy hair, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s one of Han and Leia’s kids in the movie. Also, people have been talking about him as possibly being a villain in the movie, and in the Expanded Universe, one of Han and Leia’s kids did go over to the Dark Side of the Force. But then again, the Expanded Universe has been declared non-canon, so take those notes with a grain of salt.
Third: Because there have been so many alleged leaks, it was time someone started rounding them up in one place. This from the International Business Times is one of them, and there’s a post at Movie Pilot that takes things a step further, opining on why some of these rumors could be true and why some might not be true. Don’t forget, there’s bound to be some misinformation mixed in with all of these rumors.
That being said, the mother of all posts is at SlashFilm, which seems to have compiled something resembling a loose outline of the entire movie. Now, I’ve read it, and I’ve also read another article by the same guy talking about how there could be links between the Star Wars Rebels cartoon series and Episode VII, and frankly, the spoilers in the two articles conflict with each other.
But here’s the thing: Latino Review, one of the sources reporting these leaks and rumors, recently revealed that those rumors had first been posted on 4chan. Now, if you’ve never heard of the 4chan community, they’re the preeminent faceless pranksters and activists embedded deep within the Internet, so anything coming out of there related to Star Wars should be treated with a HUGE grain of salt. Like, the size of a salt lick for a deer enclosure in your local zoo.
