Before Captain Canady commanded a Dreadnought in the First Order, he served aboard a Star Destroyer in the Galactic Empire with the sweetest name for a Star Destroyer you’ve ever heard. I mean, you know Star Destroyer names, right? Devastator, Dauntless, Avenger, Executor (SSD, I know) – heck, Admiral Garrick Versio’s Star Destroyer was called the Eviscerator! But you won’t believe the name of the one Canady served on…
In today’s deep dive into The Last Jedi Visual Dictionary (thanks again for the review copy, DK Publishing!), I’ll be revealing that, and talking about the First Order’s fleet in greater detail. As I’ve said on the podcast, the goal here isn’t to recite every fact in the book to you. Instead, the goal is to flag some of the most interesting points discussed by Pablo Hidalgo in the book, to enhance your next viewing of the movie.
And in this case, it means leaning a little more into the business and politics of war profiteering in the galaxy; how many ships were sent after the fleeing Resistance ships; why Holdo’s suicide shot was as super-damaging as it was; and the whole Star Destroyer/Battlecruiser naming thing. Hope you enjoy it!
