So, Poe disobeyed orders and got the dreadnought destroyed, at the cost of the whole bomber fleet. But if he hadn’t, the dreadnought would have been part of the First Order contingent that tracked the Resistance fleet through hyperspace. And its cannons are way more powerful than any of those other First Order ships. So if Poe hadn’t blown it up, it would have destroyed the Resistance fleet.
But then Poe tries to lead by setting in motion the plan to disable the hyperspace tracking on the Supremacy. But by running his mouth on the open channel for DJ to hear, Poe caused the deaths of most the Resistance’s D’Qar survivors.
These are just two examples of mentors and their students trying to do the “right” thing, sometimes disobeying, and never getting the same result. It’s a complicated series of situations in The Last Jedi, and we’re hashing a few of them out…
