The Academy Award nominations were announced on Monday, and The Rise of Skywalker has been nominated in three categories: Visual Effects, Original Score, and Sound Editing. Intriguingly – at least to me! – all the nominees for Sound Mixing are the same as for Sound Editing, with the lone exception being that Ad Astra was nominated instead of The Rise of Skywalker.
On today’s show, we’ll see how this compares to the rest of the Sequel Trilogy movies, the other Disney-era movies, and the rest of the Skywalker Saga as well. We’ll also talk about how long it’s been since a Star Wars movie won an Oscar in these main TV-broadcast categories (not counting “Special Achievement Awards,” but acknowledging them while we’re at it). And finally, we’ll celebrate the work of one very special person who’s been nominated for his work on six of the nine Skywalker Saga movies – and examine why he wasn’t nominated for the other three. Punch it!
