So yes, The Force Awakens broke records and broke websites! Multiple websites, including Fandango and AMC, reported website outages due to massive surges of traffic. They got back online in time to set records, though.
Fandango reported that ticket sales for The Force Awakens eclipsed the record set by The Hunger Games by a factor of eight. Eight times greater!
Also, IMAX sales were $6.5 million in the first day, and previously, they’d never eclipsed $1 million in a day. Wow!!! For the people who think this may be the biggest movie of all time, and might even be the first $2 billion movie, I’d say the odds are certainly looking better than ever.
Meanwhile, the entire Star Wars 7×7 team – Brainstormer Lani, Quizmaster Joe, Scorekeeper Declan, and myself (your humble podcast host) will be going to the Star Wars Marathon in Boston on December 17! If you’re going to be there, too, let me know in the comments, and hopefully I’ll get to meet you in person and say hi. Yes, I’ll be wearing a Star Wars 7×7 shirt, so I should be easily spotted. 🙂
Got a couple of videos for you to check out, too. John Boyega posted a longer reaction video, that shows him watching the whole trailer. Stick with it, he ramps up to the couch jump…

And – if you dare – check out IGN’s attempt to cut up and reassemble all the footage released so far into what they think is the chronological order of the movie. There are a couple pieces that are missing – only one Finn helmet removal instead of two, for example – and personally, I’m not sure I agree with all of it, but I think it’s a pretty neat thing to have attempted. Note: some viewers later commented that they wished they hadn’t watched it, because it had a sort of net spoiler effect, even though it’s only made up of officially-released footage. I didn’t feel that way myself, but consider that fair warning.
