Star Wars Rebels Season 3 Premiere Week continues! Today, I’m looking at the three clips that have been released (so far) by Lucasfilm for the new season. They’re all embedded below for you to check out, too.
“Enter Thrawn” has some new carnage and a new line from Grand Admiral Thrawn about how he studies the art of war, and works to perfect it. The clip itself isn’t as much of a preview of the upcoming episodes as it is a mini-preview of the kind of chaos he’ll bring to the proceedings of season 3.
“Mind Trick” demonstrates the concerns we should all have about Ezra leaning toward the dark side of the Force. In it, Ezra controls the mind of an AT-DP pilot and makes the pilot shoot his own stormtrooper comrades. The music by Kevin Kiner on this is particularly evocative and foreboding, mixing both light and dark leitmotifs.
“Meet Bendu” may be the most mysterious and intriguing of the three. Bendu apparently called out to Kanan in specific, or the universe of Force users in general, because the conflict between light and dark has awoken him from a long slumber. He’s able to open a Sith holocron with ease, but is not affected by it. Objects don’t have the power to change people, he notes, people can only change themselves.
Additionally, a convor arrives during their conversation and alights on Bendu’s shoulder. Executive Producer Dave Filoni has a thing about convorees – the one at the end of season 2’s “Twilight of the Apprentice” has a hidden meaning to it. “In some ways, I could say that it’s a messenger, it’s an observer. It is definitely something,” Filoni says. So its appearance in this clip is likely not to be an accident.
I’m discussing it all in today’s episode. Tune in!
