Last year, in the weeks leading up to The Force Awakens, I did a series of episodes considering what we knew about the main characters leading up to the movie. This year, I had planned to do the same for Rogue One. In fact, today was supposed to be Chirrut Imwe’s day in the spotlight.
That said, I didn’t know back in October, when I was planning this out, that Carrie Fisher was going to release a memoir that revealed her affair with Harrison Ford. Or that a significant biography of George Lucas would be hitting bookshelves. Or that, unlike with The Force Awakens, that Lucasfilm would put out dozens of commercials for Rogue One, bringing us dedicated Star Wars fans to the point of oversaturation, and even reconsidering where we draw our spoiler lines.
So I’m sharing about the cutting room floor of episode planning for Star Wars 7×7 today, and also considering whether the full court press that Lucasfilm is engaged in is working for the casual moviegoing audience (aka, people who aren’t dedicated Star Wars fans).
I’d love to hear your stories, too – are you talking to people who don’t “get” what the deal is with Rogue One? Please share in the comments!
