Well, here are a couple more ways that The Force Awakens is different from the original Star Wars:
1. Whereas Tarkin and Vader had a mutual respect and a good working relationship, Hux and Kylo have a mutual distrust and bitter rivalry.
2. Whereas Tarkin died on the Death Star, Hux survives the destruction of Starkiller Base.
With those points in mind, what does General Hux’s biggest challenge look like for The Last Jedi? Well, the Emperor laid the blame for the destruction of the Death Star at Vader’s feet, gave him all sorts of grief for it, and elevated Tagge to the title of Grand General and made Vader report to Tagge.
What might Snoke do with a living Hux? Based on the fact that dark-side Force users seem to be class-A jerks to their apprentices, I think Snoke is going to let Hux skate on this one, especially since Kylo also had his hat handed to him by an untrained scavenger girl.
But Hux has to be motivated into a super rage when it comes to the Resistance, and wiping it from the face of the galaxy. Big challenge there.
But what if … what if Hux’s dad is still alive? Brendol Hux, former commandant of the Imperial Academy on Arkanis, the guy responsible for coming up with the sadistic training regimen for the First Order stormtroopers. I can’t imagine he’s been very nice to Armitage, his illegitimate son, during Armitage’s formative years out in the Unknown Regions. If Brendol’s alive, you can bet Armitage is going to get an earful from Daddy Dearest. Is that his biggest challenge, then? Dealing with daddy’s expectations, and heck, for an even more complicated twist, trying to unwind himself from them?
Well, enough from me for the moment. How about you? What do you think his biggest challenge will be? Share your thoughts in the comments!
