On the physical side of things, I don’t expect Rey to have too much trouble in The Last Jedi. Sure, she has to get defeated somehow, so that she can rise up again and kick butt in Episode IX. But I don’t think that’s going to be a factor of her ability, per se.
I think that’s going to be a factor of her identity.
If the Japanese promos are true, we’re in for the most shocking reveal of any of the Star Wars movies, and the only thing that could have to do with is Rey’s identity. Nothing else could get that kind of billing. Well, something probably could, but it’s rather unlikely. Luke being the one who actually killed all the budding Jedi? That’s about the best I could come up with that wouldn’t be Rey-involved, and it’s a ridiculous idea.
Something about the reveal of her identity has to be something that debilitates her in some way, opens her up to the possibility of being defeated, however temporarily. I’ll explain more in today’s podcast! And if you’ve got thoughts about Rey’s biggest challenges in The Last Jedi, please share them in the comments.
