40 years, 40 stories. That’s the premise of From a Certain Point of View, the collection of short stories that celebrates the original Star Wars by telling the tales that run parallel to the movie.
This is my second episode focused on the book, this time looking at stories in and around the sandcrawler that serendipitously delivered R2-D2 and C-3PO into the hands of the Lars family and their nephew, Luke Skywalker. Those three stories are:
–“Stories in the Sand” by Griffin McElroy about Jot, a Jawa who learns that there’s more to Artoo than meets the eye.
–“Reirin” by Sabaa Tahir, which tells an unusual story about a female Tusken Raider sneaking onto the sandcrawler to retrieve something significantly valuable, for an unknown trader to use.
–“The Red One” by Rae Carson, about R5-D4 and his brief, ultimately happy relationship with R2-D2 despite them being in competition to be sold to a new master.
