Earlier this year, Lucasfilm executives met to discuss what the way forward without Carrie Fisher looks like.
Reports surfaced claiming that Lucasfilm was in negotiations with Carrie’s estate to continue to use her likeness. That could have been CGI-related, but it could also have been poster and lunchbox related.
Well, it caused enough of a stir that Lucasfilm made a rare move and issued a rumor response:
We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.
Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.
On today’s podcast, I’m talking about that, and also digging into the rumor/leak from last year about General Organa’s role in Episode VIII, how that could be altered under the circumstances, and what the most desirable outcome would be.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, too – please share in the comments!
